The Diploma in Community Medical Service and Essential Drugs (CMS & ED) is a primary healthcare training program designed to equip individuals to provide basic allopathic medical services in rural and underserved areas of India. After completing this vocational course, which can range from 18 months to 2 years, individuals can open primary health centers, offer essential treatments, and prescribe a limited list of essential allopathic medicines, following a Supreme Court of India ruling that validates such practice. The curriculum typically includes subjects like anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology, with a strong emphasis on the World Health Organization's (WHO) list of essential drugs for primary care.
